ST. LOUIS, MO. (May 8, 2018) – Congratulations to Larry Ludwig, chief chemist and technical director for Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricants, for his appointment as a 2019 technical editor for TLT magazine, the publication for the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE). Ludwig also serves as an instructor for STLE’s Advanced Lubrication Course Gear Failure Analysis Module and Synthetic Lubricants Course Industrial Gear Lubrication Module.
With Schaeffer for almost 41 years, Ludwig is one of only a few individuals who is a Certified Lubrication Specialist (CLS), certified Oil Maintenance Analyst–Level 1 (OMA), and Certified Metalworking Fluid Specialist (CMFS) as certified by STLE. Ludwig’s extensive lubrication knowledge and years of experience in the lubrication industry helped him earn this role.
“Many highly qualified individuals applied for the position. Indeed, we had seven times more applicants than editor positions to fill for 2019,” said Tom Astrene, publisher/editor-in-chief for TLT. “The review process was rigorous, and making the final choices was an extremely difficult task.”
At Schaeffer, Ludwig is responsible for product formulation, product testing and registrations, technical support to the company’s sales reps and customers, and managing additive supplier relationships. Most recently, Ludwig helped develop Schaeffer’s multi-purpose grease, SynForce™ Green, and the company’s API CK-4/FA-4 SynShield® Diesel Oils.
Over his career, Ludwig has given presentations and webinars for leading lubrication associations and fleet councils across the country. Ludwig is an active member of STLE, holding past technical and local section chairmanships; American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM); Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE); American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI); and NSF International’s Non-Food Compounds Registration Programs Steering Subcommittee and NLGI’s Food Grade Lubricants Working Group. He’s also the co-vice chairman of NLGI/ELGI Biobased/Biodegradable Lubricants Working Group.
