See the results of a 2007 Timbco teardown with over 9,000 hours on the hydraulic pumps after running exclusively on Schaeffer's Hydraulic Fluid.
Even though the maintenance crew at Loveland Product was using a high-end lubricant in their equipment, the gearboxes were still running too hot for operating conditions. The gearboxes sit on top of mixers the company uses to batch agricultural chemicals. During summer months, equipment runs especially hot, as the building is not air-conditioned. Having just installed a new gearbox, the crew could see the higher temperatures were causing excess wear and tear on gears and bearings.
The maintenance crew used thermal imaging to test Schaffer's Gear Lube ISO 460 against the lubricant they were using. Results showed the gearbox ran 30°F cooler with Schaeffer's.
Schaeffer's Gear Lube is designed to resist oxidation and thermal stress providing excellent protection to gears and bearings. Armed with this information, the company started to switch their gearboxes to Schaeffer's and have been happy with the results.
Red Mountain Trucking is notorious in the area for keeping an extremely clean fleet of trucks. They regularly wash the motor compartment as well. Justin Richards, Billings Branch operation manager adds, "It's easier for us to spot leaks early so we can get them fixed."
One thing they couldn't pressure-wash was their fuel filters. "At or before 10,000 miles they were turning black", said Jason Whitney, the shop manager. After testing CarbonTreat in a couple of trucks, they decided to treat their bulk tank. All trucks that are fueled from the bulk tank have their fuel filters changed every 20,000 miles. At a cost of $47/fuel filter the estimated savings per year is close to $1,700. "Now we just change the fuel filter when we change oil and they aren't even dirty", adds Jason.
Red Mountain has also implemented an oil analysis program, which has allowed them to double their oil drains from their original maintenance program. The samples with Schaeffer's #711 10W-30 have come back with the recommendation to go further, but are capped due to the OEM drain interval under warranty.
Justin and Jason were asked by a competitor, "Why are you using Schaeffer's?" Their response says it best. "He's the only salesman whose products have done what he said they were going to do."
SynForce Green Grease was put to the test in the chopper bearing of a Case combines to see how it could handle temperatures. After running for a few days, thermal imaging showed a 20 degree drop in bearing temperature compared to the bearing serviced with a leading grease.
