Million Mile Engine Teardown

Schaeffer teamed up with Ranken Technical College to find out how a customer's million miles Ford 5.4L gasoline engine looks after running exclusively on Schaeffer Oil.

The experts were shocked to see the condition of this workhorse. Even the engine's main bearings still had the manufacturer's original numbers inked on them.

Bottom Line Savings

Mooneyham Trucking, Billings, MO

David Mooneyham purchased this dump truck and trailer new in 1988. It is powered by a 400 Cummins engine. In 1998 at 700,000 miles it required an overhaul due to an accessory drive failure. David had replaced two injectors prior to this happening.

Since switching to Schaeffer's Supreme 7000 15W-40, David has logged almost a million additional miles with no engine repairs or injector replacements. David's questions, "How many overhauled engines have you seen outlast the original. I wonder how long the original engine would have lasted if I had started it out with Schaeffer's." Differential temperatures dropped 15° with use of #293 Supreme Gear Lube. The original differentials have never been out of their housings.

Mountain Home Concrete, Mountain Home, AR

Mike Dilbeck is the owner of Mountain Home Concrete. He said prior to using Schaeffer's grease in the bearings on the crusher at the creek gravel wash plant, changing them was an annual event. Since switching to Schaeffer's #274-2 Moly E.P. Synthetic Plus Grease. it has been over three years since they have been replaced. At a cost of $2,000 to replace, as well as the downtime (it always happens when you need it the most), this has been a great improvement & money saver.

Powell Trucking & Live Haul, Green Forest, AR

After replacing seven turbo-chargers on seven different units in less than an eight-week period, the decision was made to switch to Supreme 7000 15W-40. The maintenance manager told upper management to expect more failures. He said, "We don't know how many more are close to failing now." There was one failure about three weeks after switching.

A year and half later, they have only lost one turbo-charger and that was after it had been serviced at a Peterbilt dealership. The engine oil had been replaced with the same brand of oil that they had previously been using (it is supposed to be an equivalent to Shell Rotella T). The turbo-charger failed during the two-hour trip back to the shop. The cost of the turbo failures was over $15,000
